Hāna Nutrition Center
The new Hāna Nutrition Center with its 1,300 square foot certified commercial kitchen joins the Hāna Fresh Organic Farm as cornerstones of Hāna Health wellness programs. Focusing on the prevention of chronic health conditions through nutritious eating, weight management and obesity prevention, this comprehensive, integrated approach aims to assure a Hana community that is vibrant, thriving, and healthy.
Nutrition Center staff prepare creative and healthy, gourmet quality food featuring organic produce grown on the premises. Salads, sandwiches, hot meals and a variety of other food products are prepared and packaged for the kupuna (senior) meal program and for sale at the Hana Fresh farm market.
The opening of the center drew praise from Hawaii’s state and national officials.
The late Senator K. Daniel Inouye praised Hāna Health for “promoting preventive health care by engaging and empowering the community to make lifelong, healthy lifestyle choices.”
Former Senator Daniel K. Akaka noted, “Hāna Fresh is an integral part of Hāna’s economy.”
U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono said, “Since its creation, Hāna Fresh as played an integral role in encouraging preventive healthcare and sustainable practices in the community.”
Colleen Hanabusa, Member of Congress, wrote “I applaud the efforts of Hāna Health and Hāna Fresh for their sincere and concerted efforts to strengthen the Hāna community.”
A proclamation sponsored by State Senators J. Kalani English and Shan S. Tsutsui, declared “Together, the Nutrition Center and Fresh Farm, which is a certified organic farming operation that produces quality vegetables, fruits, herbs and traditional Hawaiian food and medicine crops, complete Hāna Health’s approach to preventive health care.”
RSF Social Finance, through its Social Enterprise Lending arm, provided Hāna Health a loan to complete construction of the Nutrition Center.
